National Register of Historic Places
The Post Exchange and Recreation Hall served U.S. Army soldiers following its reconstruction during the modernization of Fort Moultrie from 1897 – 1906.
Sitting on the hallowed grounds of key battles taking place in both the Revolutionary and the Civil Wars, the site was so sacred to our nation’s history that Fort Moultrie was featured on the 2016 minting of the South Carolina quarter.
The Fort Moultrie Post Exchange was one of four identical sister buildings constructed by the Army at the end of the 19th century and the only one now serving as a private residence.
